In the tradition of the Holy Mother Church, the first Saturday that falls after the Feast of the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is reserved as a day to honor the Most Immaculate Heart of Mary. It just makes sense that we should honor Mary … as She fills some very important roles… She was chosen by God from the beginning of time… She was the spouse of the Holy Spirit and She was the Mother of Jesus….She remained pure and holy…spotless from the stain of sin… Then She was assumed into heaven and now reigns there as Queen with Christ the King. This feast of Her Immaculate Heart is a celebration of all this and all that encompasses her life... both externally and internally. We should celebrate her in not only for her virginal love for God the Father and her maternal love for Jesus Christ her Son, but also for her ever compassionate love for us in her Immaculate Heart.
We should honor her for her role in our salvation. Yes, Her role in our salvation…It exists…it is not something that Catholics made up. God made Her as a response to the fall in the garden of Eden. To repair the damage done by our first parents. Mary was pure and holy from her beginning. She had to be. God made it so. She is not like us in sin. But she is like us in that she did not always understand exactly what God wanted from her. But unlike us, she was Always obedient to Him and His Will for Her. And her heart… Her Immaculate Heart was pierced for it.
Today we remember Her pains and her sorrows…her triumphs and her joys… for they are ours as well, as long as we share in her love for the Lord… in His three Divine Persons as she did…with a love so pure and holy that in reality it would be hard for us to even come close…but with her intercession…with her help… we can try. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.
